Powder Coating our metalwork
Leading Sustainability and Style in Gloss, Satin, Matt, specialist and Special Effects Powder Coats for Metalwork
They are one of the toughest surface finishes available as they are baked onto the metal. They give metalwork long-lasting durable protection, with many coatings lasting 20 years or more, and needing very little maintenance in that time. They are easy to clean, weather, abrasion, salt and chemical resistant. Some are even heat resistant, so can be used on metalwork that will be exposed to high temperatures such as fire pits. They also don’t give off fumes as they set, and produce very little waste during their application.
All this means that powder coats give metalwork attractive, easy care protection from rusting and corrosion that is people-friendly, planet-friendly, and wallet-friendly.
We stock, or can order in, gloss, satin and matt colours and special effects powder coatings from all the best colour ranges including RAL and Interpon. We only use the best quality powders and equipment from leading powder coat manufacturers including Akzo Nobel and HMG. Many of the powder coats we use are Qualicoat standard or architectural grade, suitable for use indoors or outdoors, and of course we powder coat all our metalwork using 100% renewable energy too.
No matter where you want to put your metalwork, or if you’re not sure what style or type of powder coat you need for it, we will work with you every step of the way to turn your idea into your perfect metalwork.

Powder Coating Metal FAQ
What are powder coats and powder coating?
Powder coats are dry powders that are applied to cleaned and treated metal to protect and beautify it. They are sprayed onto the metal using a jet of air through a nozzle, then the metal is baked in an oven to set the powder coat onto the surface. This process is called powder coating.

Why powder coat? Why don’t you use paint?
Using baked-on powder coats and primers instead of paint to protect and beautify our products means that we do not routinely produce any paint solvent fumes, waste solvent, or used paint tins and packaging, so we can make metalwork that is more sustainable and planet-friendly.

What powder coat colours or effects should I choose?
With hundreds of thousands of options available, it can be a bit tricky to work out what would look, and work, best. Which powder coat colours or effects you choose for your custom metalwork depends on the look you want to achieve and where the metalwork will be kept or used. We have expertise in thousands of surface finishes and will talk you through the options that will be most suitable for your particular metalwork.

Gloss, satin or matt? What do “high gloss”, “medium gloss”, “low gloss”, “Gloss Units” & “GU” mean?
Most of us describe a painted surface as gloss, satin or matt. As these terms aren’t precise, the shininess of powder coating is measured in “Gloss Units”, or “GU”, and categorised into “gloss levels”:

High gloss levels will look very shiny, and are over 85GU

Medium gloss levels will look satin, and are between 30-70GU

Low gloss levels will look matt, and are less than 30GU
Which gloss unit or level you choose for your custom metalwork depends on the look you want to achieve and where the metalwork will be kept or used. We have expertise in all the gloss levels and will talk you through what will be most suitable for your particular metalwork.
We can usually get most powder coats in gloss, satin and matt. Want to find out more about gloss levels? Contact us now!
Can I change my choice of powder coat before you make it?
Yes, Our custom metalwork service includes free minor modifications such as changing which finish you would like before we start manufacturing. If you have already confirmed your order with a payment, changing powder coats may add further costs, but we would let you know what those would be before buying your custom powder coat.
Can you powder coat multi-coloured items?
It is possible to achieve multi-coloured metalwork with solid colour powder coats if you fasten together different coloured pieces of metal. It is also possible to blend coloured lacquers on the metal surface when applying them. This produces some fabulous artistic ombre effects which are perfect for decorative items.
Which colours you choose for your metalwork depends on the look you want, the location you’re putting it in, and the use you’re putting it to. No matter what your requirements, we will guide you through choosing the perfect combination of powder coats for you.
