Two Layer COR-TEN® Weathering Steel & Stainless Steel Sign for NHS Wales
NHS Wales Aneurin Bevan University Health Board provides healthcare services in South East Wales. They asked us to create an entrance sign for their new and improved memorial garden at Nevill Hall Hospital which now offers a larger space for those paying tribute to babies and loved ones that have sadly passed away.
Important considerations included a garden-themed design in a hand drawn, rustic style, using COR-TEN® weathering steel, adding a backing material to aid readability against the red brick garden wall, and completing the work on the basis of an official purchase order. The Hospital Works & Estates team were also keen to find a sign maker who could design and make a suitable sign based on broad guidelines alone, so our “idea-to-item” custom metalwork service was the perfect match for them.
We based our design on our own fondly recollected childhood memories of summer, and the plants and animals found in family gardens.
To compliment the natural look and feel of the vibrant warm orange-brown genuine COR-TEN® weathering steel sign faceplate, we chose to make the backing material from satin brushed stainless steel. As well as giving us the opportunity to create an eye-catching and readable contrast over the COR-TEN®, this metal also enabled us to offer them a maintenance free sign that would last for many decades, and be fully recyclable at the end of its life.
